About Designs
What is a Design?
A registered design protects the appearance of an article, and not the function or method of construction. The maximum term of a registered design filed after 17 June 2004 is 10 years. A registered design may cover the appearance three dimensionally (shape/configuration) and/or two dimensionally (pattern/ornamentation), if it is new and distinctive compared to what was published or used prior to the date of applying for the design.Return to Top
What is required to get a registered design?
An application must include representations depicting the design to be protected. You should not publically disclose or offer for sale the design before filing the application.Return to Top
